Energy Literacy (E-lit) for Adults – An Innovative Approach to Reducing Energy Poverty” is a two-year project that brings together experts from academic, non-formal education, and business backgrounds across five European countries. The recognition of energy poverty’s significant impact on adult citizens has prompted organizations to unite, pooling their cross-sectoral knowledge and expertise to address energy poverty, a multidimensional phenomenon of increased importance and concern in Europe.
According to Eurostat
• 9.3% of the population, which is equivalent to over 41 million people in the EU, were unable to keep their home adequately warm in 2022.
• Nearly 7% of the EU population faced arrears on their utility bills.
• 15% of the population lived in dwellings with leak, dampness, or rot in 2020 (the most recent year for available data).
Thus, the E-lit Adults Project emphasizes advancing energy literacy in an innovative way.
To compare and contrast the energy literacy knowledge and skill gaps among adults at risk of energy poverty and identify key areas for improvement.
To develop an online platform as a hub for energy literacy information, resources and networking.
To improve energy literacy knowledge and skills of adults facing energy poverty.
To collaborate with stakeholders ensuring the training materials are widely adapted and aligned with priorities on energy poverty.
The project objectives will be achieved through
• Development of a consolidated in-depth report identifying key knowledge and skill gaps by conducting an analysis among 750 adult citizens facing or at risk of energy poverty.
• Development of a micro-training course for three energy literacy levels, comprising a total of 126 micro-learning modules.
• Creation of an online networking platform that will engage various target groups and facilitate the exchange of knowledge related to energy literacy.
